Ridgebacks are dogs for people who will treat them as family members, and who want to spend time with an individual that has a natural ability to reveal a great personality, making it more than just a pet.
The Ridgeback is very persuasive canine, and will try to convince his owner to see things from his point of view. Typical for Ridgies is their language, especially their body language, which is very clear and easy to read, and some of them use their voices to underline what they are trying to express. They are honest, sensitive, and have a great sense of humour.

Ridgebacks are dogs that need to be treated with respect, and are easy learners as long as you work together as a team. An even-tempered canine, the Ridgeback is yet a natural watchdog.

They love a good romp in a field or in the woods, but also need a lot of social training, especially the young and maturing dog. Although a Ridgeback will lie on the couch for hours it is neither lazy nor unmotivated, and in return for being such a well-behaved and quiet dog indoors, it needs to be activated and allowed to use its own judgement as well as its body.
They make good family companions, and get along with children very well.
